Securing Challenging the Deep as the only New Zealand location for this exhibition was a huge win for the Otago Museum. As part of the process they visited the exhibit when it was showing at its original home in the Maritime museum in Sydney.
One of the big take outs from that trip was to find a way to bring in some illumination to the large scale imagery which was hard to do so in the darkness of the space. The low lighting is an essential aspect for the projections to work and also adds to the impact and drama of the space.
Creating large scale lightboxes to make more of a feature of the stunning underwater imagery was the challenge of our signage team. We worked closely with the museum staff to get the levels right and the signage really pops with the gentle glow behind it.
